This might be an unpopular opinion, but I love vegetables more than meat, no I am not your regular hyper environmentally conscious vegan ( though eating some extra vegetable over eating meat is a legitimate action one could take on their own to reduce global warming )
I actually enjoy eating vegetables, but that perhaps is down to my culture and upbringing.
I grew up at a household where pretty much every night there were vegetables for supper and you had to eat them. Indeed, even my bratty younger brother (who fortunately grown out of his aloofness) needed to eat all of his vegetables.
While I don’t enjoy the comfort and privilege of enjoying home-cooked vegetables. Having a microwave surely does help me continue my family tradition of eating regular vegetables.
Did you know that in the microwave you can steam vegetables?
Yeah, it’s actually foolproof and pretty convenient for anybody to arrange and enjoy vegetables.
Even if you are not a veg lover quite like me, on certain nights, it will spare you from just eating a slab of meat with nothing else on my plate, since it’s very easy to prepare and takes less than ten minutes to make.
Besides there are few benefits of steaming vegetables, as analysis released in 2009 found that steaming caused a lower loss of glucosinolate in broccoli,(which helps to fight cancer) with the highest losses caused by stir-frying and boiling (both higher-heat cooking methods).
Since broccoli is my go-to vegetable of choice and is extremely rich in Calcium, Iron, Potassium I will be writing a guide on how to steam fresh broccoli in the microwave.
Steps To Microwave Fresh Broccoli
i. Washing
The first thing that is needed to be done is washing, especially in an age of pandemic, this could be done by rinsing in water, however, the best way to wash broccoli is by keeping it in a bowl of hot water. After that, the broccoli needs to be dried, which could be easily done with a little help of a handkerchief or napkin.
ii. Chopping Broccoli
The tender little flowers at the end of the head are thought about as many people hear about broccoli. What’s a shame because all the vegetables – including the thick stem – are not only tasty but also nutritious
Break the broccoli into florets of bite-size take care of chopping them in smaller dimensions and extracting some real woody parts.
iii. Preparing the Broccoli
After chopping down the broccoli the vegetable should be put on a bowl and for every broccoli pound (every broccoli head) add two or three pounds of water. Then it’s necessary to season the broccoli with salt and pepper, a pinch of salt and a teaspoon of pepper and a toss of butter will help elevate the taste of the vegetable. After that, the bowl needs to be closed with a lead or a plate.
After that, the bowl needs to be put in a microwave on medium heat for three and a half to four minutes then check if the broccoli is tender, if not heat it for an extra minute. After that get its lid off, but be careful. Because vapor is hot, and if you don’t take care, you can burn badly.
